To Plan or Not to Plan…

Right or left? Decide as you go. Who hasn’t dreamed of hitting the road with a wad of cash and unlimited time, making no plans, just going with the flow, turning when you feel like turning, stopping when you feel like stopping? I think it would be amazing to experience once in your life. Continue reading To Plan or Not to Plan…

You Mean We SAVE Money?!

DSCF4214

I will admit that on our first big family trip, we drove simply because it was too expensive to fly with a family of five and because the children were small, I looked for things to do along the way so they could have much needed breaks from the car. BUT, I am so glad I did! The trip to and from our destination, which happened to be Florida, was a blast!

Hidden, Oft Ignored Gems: State Parks

Did you know that as of 2016, there were 10,336 state parks in the United States? How many have you visited? I’m guessing you haven’t even made a dent in that number. I know I haven’t.

While national parks are pretty well- known and are among featured stops on many vacations, state parks are often overlooked or just plain unknown to many of us; the hidden gems of the U.S. Some state parks hog all of the glory, like Niagra Falls State Park in New York, (did you even know it was a state park?), or Ecola State Park in Astoria, Oregon, home to Cannon Beach– the much photographed beach featured in the 1980’s movie ‘Goonies’. Not to mention Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park (Big Sur), or Emerald Bay State Park (Lake Tahoe). If you bother to take the time, you will probably find some amazing state parks that should make it onto your bucket list. It’s possible there are a few within a few hours of you that you are missing out on because you don’t even know they exist. Continue reading Hidden, Oft Ignored Gems: State Parks

Camping, Glamping and Yurts

Love camping? I don’t :). The fantastic news for all of us that break out in hives at the thought of sleeping in a tent and don’t own an RV or camper is that camping has evolved somewhat…. While some people love camping, be it rustic or RV, others, like me, give it a very wide berth. Maybe you’re one of those lovers of nature who want to be completely submersed in it; bugs, rain, sticks and all. You love sleeping in accommodations that have flap rather than a door. That’s great!
